Gabi Zodik is the Mobile First Research Global Leader, as well as the Department Group Manager of the IBM Haifa Research Lab Mobile and Industry Solution Dept. He oversees the lab’s research and development efforts in Mobile, Wearable, IoT, Space Time Services, and emerging Cloud Computing platforms (such as Bluemix).

In his MobileFirst global role, Gabi oversees all the research activities in Mobile. Mobile, Wearable and IoT technologies are revolutionizing our personal lives and transforming the way we do business. MobileFirst technologies from IBM are helping enable this transformation in businesses, whether internally for business processes or externally for customer facing systems using front office digitization. The large variety of heterogeneous platforms is one of the many challenges associated with developing and managing mobile applications. IBM Research is investigating all these hurdles and address the entire application lifecycle as well as the convergence of Mobile, Wearable and IoT technologies. These innovations include: advanced Mobile services for dynamic content management, intelligent automation, Contextual and Location oriented services, Mobile Visual Analytics services, Wearable platforms, security analysis and certification, and application usage analytics. These capabilities support both hybrid and native application development.

He also serves as the relationship manager for IBM MobileFirst with Research. He has an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in electrical engineering from the Technion, and an MBA from the University of Haifa

Abstract

Future Directions in Mobile, IoT and Wearable enterprise computing
The next wave in computing is the convergence of Mobile, Wearables, & IoT enabling new solutions. We shall present technologies from IBM Research to enable this transformational change, and give use-cases from industries. 1) We describe integration technologies for tying mobile devices, wearables, sensors, and cloud, as well as equipping mobile devices the ability to sense and control  the physical environment. 2) We illustrate new analytic models for leveraging the vast amounts of data generated, off-line and real-time, to optimize processes. 3) We address privacy by allowing users control over their information. (4) We show new tools for building, securing, and optimizing the applications that run across this heterogeneous infrastructure
 

 

Alfeo Pareschi

Chief Strategy Officer, Axiros

 Alfeo Pareschi has been in the telecommunications industry since the mid 1990s, initially serving as technical director in the OSS and Product Development divisions of wireline and wireless international carriers. In the last few years, he has been covering roles with global responsibility for sales and customer solutions in companies developing innovative products (e.g. Mobile TV ) for broadband services.  With Axiros since 2011, his main responsibility is to manage the technical sales worldwide and, as CSO, to lead the company’s transformation program in the Internet of Things.

Abstract

IoT platforms: Security, Identity Management, Ontologies and Interoperability

In IoT platforms and middleware a huge focus has been put in the last few years on the aspects of data processing and interoperability; and not without reason as, at least at the moment, the majority of the use cases are still somehow related to telemetry and / or interconnection of devices in the field. These users cases will remain relevant in the next few years, as the adoption rate will increase and some agreement on standards will help the players in the IoT arena deliver integrated open solutions. 
However, while the adoption rate increases, the attention on operational aspects are becoming more and more relevant in deploying solutions that will be business and even life critical. And - since IoT is about connecting devices to a widely available Network - these aspects are starting to take the shape of questions: How do i recognize a new device ? How do I associate a device to an individual behind that ? How can I reject rogue device ? How are resources allocated on a fair basis in a widely changing environment ?
These issues are emerging from academic papers and technology labs and moving quickly in the business environment as IoT setups are being delivered to manage infrastructure like nationwide energy grids or the health and care services.

 

INVITED TALK

Afonso Ferreira, Trust & Security Unit, European Commission: IoT Research and Innovation in the European Commission
 

Afonso Ferreira is currently in charge, amongst others, of the general secretariat of the Working Group on “Secure ICT Research and Innovation” of the European Network and Information Security Platform, which provides the input for Horizon 2020 Work-Programmes in Digital Security, and is leading the planning and financing of cybersecurity activities through the Connecting Europe Facility programmes. He is seconded as a French expert to the European Commission, working now as policy officer at the Trust and Security unit of the DG CONNECT, since 2011. Other assignments included the Future and Emerging Technologies unit and the Digital Futures task force. Dr Ferreira is Directeur de Recherche with the French CNRS and was the Scientific Coordinator for International Affairs of the CNRS Institute for Computer Sciences INS2I, in 2010-2011, also conducting scientific work with the INRIA. He has over thirty years of experience in the area of Communication Networks, High Performance Computing, and Algorithms, having published more than 100 papers in the forefront of scientific research. He has been member of more than 60 Technical Program Committees for international events and is currently an editorial board member for international scientific journals. Dr Ferreira has also been member of Technical Committees of international organisations and was at the origin of several European projects since FP3. From 2007 to 2010 Dr Ferreira acted as the Head of Science Operations at the Brussels office of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), an intergovernmental initiative for spanning 36 countries, where he oversaw all aspects related to COST’s more than 200 European-wide multi-disciplinary projects. In addition to his in-depth knowledge of European Union policies and programmes, Dr Ferreira specialises in Cybersecurity, Foresight, Innovation Policy, and on the impact of the Digital Revolution on growth and jobs.
